When should you see an orthodontist?

Children

It is vital that all children should see an orthodontist at age 7, and no later than age 8.

The Australian Society of Orthodontists, American Association of Orthodontists, and the European Orthodontic Society all advocate early assessment.

The screening of kids at an early age for orthodontic problems is so vital because certain problems with cranio-facial growth and development can only be fixed before age 10.

Whilst the majority, about 80%, of kids dont need early treatment before adolescence, those that do get a huge benefit being treated at the right time.

There is also a lot of unnecessary treatment being recommended by some operators, either incorrectly, or for economic reasons. If someone has recommended braces or plates, get a second opinion from a specialist.

Regardless of what anyone says get your child assessed by a qualified specialist orthodontist by age 8.

Adults

There is never a better time than the present. At Smiles Group our eldest patient award is held by an 87 year old, and she said all throughout her treatment she wished she had done it sooner.

With invisible, convenient and painless options available like invisalign and incognito, there has never been a better time to get the smile you have always wanted.

Adult orthodontics is more complicated and delicate than any other type of dental treatment. Ensure you consult an expert that has extensive dental and orthodontic experience to be confident that you will have safe, effective, and fast results.

A great bite and aligned dentition can improve your oral health and reduce the likelihood of complex dental treatment down the track.

So the answer the answer to the question of when you should start is.... Yesterday!
